WA SOLO BEST PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP:
Jason Bishop and Kobee Ziedas scored an exciting win in the WA Solo Best Pairs Championship after a night long battle with Daniel Winchester and Ryan Pope. The Championship was run along traditional lines for the heats with two sets of two riders per team. However the finals of the Best Pairs saw the top four teams divided into two races with a rider from each of the top four teams in the two finals. Bishop and Ziedas scored consistently all night. All teams utilised last minute gate changes during the night to try and get an advantage over their opponents. It was a fascinating battle with some excellent racing on display. Swedish visitors Joel Andersson and Kenny Wennerstam were in great form with Andersson in particular brilliant to watch. He ran the whole programme undefeated. His win in the A final being one the highlights of the night. In doing so he made sure that he and Jack Hunter finished third in the Best Pairs.

WA Solo Best Pairs Result: 1st K Ziedas/J Bishop; 2nd D Winchester/R Pope; 3rd J Hunter/J Andersson (Sweden)
Given the nature of team’s racing it produced a lot of different individual race winners on the night that included Daniel Winchester (1), Joel Andersson (5), Jason Bishop (3), Ryan Pope (1), Matt Marson (2), Kenny Wennerstam (2), Des Heys (1) and Kale Ballantyne (1). A special mention to Carley Gittus who dropped her bike deliberately to avoid Jack Hunter when the latter’s forks collapsed sending him to the track in front of Gittus in the first of the two finals. Great riding Carley!  Also great to see Glenn Gordon out of retirement to run on the night. Commiserations to Ethan Ballantyne who appeared to cook his bike early in the night and was unable to continue.

Comment of the meeting by Kobee Ziedas: “I’m glad I wasn’t paired with my brother Jarryd. We would have fought all night!”

SENIOR SIDECARS:

One of the highlights of the Sidecars was the return to racing action of former racing great Brad Willis. Brad stepped onto the Clayton Mills outfit with Millsy opting to rest up ahead of the State Title on March 10th. Willis with Mills’ partner Jesse Thomas were a formidable combination and Willis showed he had lost nought over the years with a great win in the Final over Russell Mitchell/Andrew Sharpe and Horrie Payne/Clinton Holmwood. Mitchell/Sharpe imposed a fifteen metre handicap on themselves. It would have been interesting to see them start at the gate next to Willis/Thomas!
While Willis/Thomas won the final, they also won two of the early heats with other wins on the night going to Mitchell/Sharpe (4) and Wenn/Cornwall (2). Mention should be made of the great work that Morgan Cornwall is doing swinging for Adam Wenn. Cornwall graduated from Junior ranks just a season ago and has adapted to the big time in fine fashion.

250 cc SOLOS

In the absence of Brad Gordon who has a broken arm Chris Bogdan and Ryan Phillipson made the most of the opportunities to put in some great races. Bogdan’s starting was superior to Phillipson’s, but apart from that the boys were very evenly matched. By virtue of winning the battle of the gate Chris Bogdan took five wins from five starts.

250 cc SIDECARS

A full complement of three outfits produced some hard charging and spectacular racing. The Fewster Brothers, Jack and Adam won two of the qualifying heats and then managed to win the Final but it was really anyone’s race, though they rode a tight and tidy line and deserved their win. Keenan Murphy/Josh McQuade have made a big impact since they started racing this season and won the first heat of the night. The combination of Jake Harvey/Tylar Solomon seemed to have fixed their mechanical woes and were rewarded with a win in the fourth heat. These three teams are very evenly matched with every race producing big moments!

125 cc SOLOS

Seven young guys all on a mission produced some great racing. Declan Killeen was back to his best with a great and hard fought win over younger brother Luke in the Final. Jack McDiarmid who finished third seems to have wound it up a notch in his last few meetings and is reaping some rewards for effort.

The qualifying heats were won by Lincoln Worroll, Luke Killeen (3), Declan Killeen (2), Chris Bogdan and Jack McDiarmid. Youngsters Mitchell McDiarmid and Xander Smith continue to feature in the placings and will not surprise with a win or two before the season is out.

125 cc LITES

A terrific win to Lincoln Worroll in the Final. Worroll looked good all night in the 125 Lites and he is a vastly improved competitor. Following him home were Xander Smith, Max Harvey, Trevor Dossett and Axel McCarthy. A good field that produced some high standard Junior racing in the pre-program.

125 cc STOCK BIKES

Mitchell McDiarmid made this division his on the night with five wins from five starts including the Final. He didn’t have it all his own way though with Axel McCarthy in particular making McDiarmid work hard for all his wins. Trevor Dossett and Max Harvey are working hard against their more experienced opponents.

50 cc BIKES

It looks like my message from last program worked with a list of names equal to the number of riders on track. All we have to do now is get some way to identify them. Numbers? Helmet colours? Great effort by the crew of Jake Corbett, Jett Harvey (we know which one you are Jett!), Tyler Madgen, Coby Robson (140 on the bike we know you too!), Ethan Vearing and Noah Young.
